Job Title: School Bus Driver

Requirements:
We are in need of dependable, caring people, who like dealing with the public and helping children. Most openings are for full size school buses, but some locations also have smaller school buses & vans. Some also have openings for wheel-chair school purposes vehicles and wheel-chair / smaller vehicle opportunities. Vehicles are all automatic or semi-automatic.  You could be driving in the city or in rural highway setting.

NOTE:  We are interested in individuals who can see themselves driving a school bus, part time, for the full school year, (10 months) and then two months off for summer.

Qualifications:
Must meet the minimum age requirements to hold a school bus driver’s licence in your province (varies by province).

  • Professional experience may be helpful but is not required, as completely free, friendly, professional training is provided.
  • Must be willing & able to successfully complete training program.
  • Must have at least three years of driving experience, with at least one year in North America.
  • Must have strong english speaking & reading skills, as you will be required to read maps, and converse on a two way radio
  • Must hold a valid driver’s licence for the province you are applying in.
  • Must enjoy driving and working with children.
  • Must possess a very good driving record.
  • Must communicate clearly in English or French (depending on area and school district requirements).
  • Must undergo & pass Ministry prescribed Medical examination.
  • Must undergo drug testing, criminal record search, vulnerable sector clearance and other background checks with satisfactory results.
  • No criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
  • Experience working with children & the public, is helpful.
  • Must be safety-minded, courteous, and responsive.
  • If you enjoy driving & working with children, this could be the perfect, secure, part-time job for you. With this you can also be a part in the student’s education.

Duties:

Safely drive students to and from school, following a prescribed route, on a daily basis during the school year.

  • Perform daily vehicle circle check safety inspections, documenting & reporting according to company, school & government regulations.
  • Comply with all company & government regulations, laws & policies.
  • Communicate clearly and interact with parents, school employees, passengers, co-workers & the general public in a courteous, professional manner as required.

Working Hours:

  • School Bus Drivers typically work part time
  • Approximately 7:00AM to 9:00AM and 3:00PM to 5:00PM, Monday to Friday on school days only (exact times vary depending on school times and individual routes).
  • In most cases there is potential for optional/additional kindergarten or ‘noon’ routes and/or field & charter trips during the school year and the summer. Bus drivers are not required to work on weekends, evenings or school holidays. While additional work may be available, it is not mandatory.

 

Rate of Pay:
Varies by location, length of route & vehicle type, but is usually favourable when compared to other part-time pay rates.

In some locations (if not prohibited by school district regulations) you can bring your pre-schooler with you on the route.

  1. Was wondering if this is for the up coming school year or if it is for immediate placement. I currently hold a Class 1A license, Have driven School Bus (34 seater), ambulance, Police service vehicles and semi since I have been 18yrs old. My drivers abstract is clean and I do have good people skills. I am currently retired.

  3. I have my St John’s First Aid certificate from my other work.. are there other safety certificates i need to apply for? what other requiments re there to apply for the school bus driver in Regina position?

  4. Hi I’m Michael Benedict T. Cañete 32 years old a Filipino I’m very interested in this job as a school driver.I learned to drive a car since year 2000 and I don’t have a single traffic violation and ZERO accidents on the road. I can drive AT/MT vehicle. I’m a hardworking person.Although I haven’t driven a school bus before but I’m a fast learner sir/madam.I hope I will be hired for this job.Thank you and God Bless.

        • I’m not questioning whether you’re qualified or not to drive a school bus… It’s more about getting you into Canada ….. which I don’t know if that’s going to happen at this time… I could ask the client…

  6. NOTE ABOUT REQUIREMENTS: If you’re applying for school bus driver job, we need people who have a good grasp of speaking and reading & writing english. As well… you understand that this is a part time job.. we don’t mind if you mix this part time job with other work as long as you are able to be present to attend to driving the school bus routes on time each school day.

Hi i am landed immigrant in canada, regardless of the fact i am an experienced driver in my home country and i have driving license from my home country since 2006, i got my Class 5 driving license with novice 2 from SGI in last june 2012, can i get this part time school bus driving job or training?

Hi Sir, I am a permanent citizen of Canada and got class 5 licence from SGI Regina.I also got my driver’s Abstract and applied my police Clearance Certificate. i have done my medical.I got driving experience of last 20 years. I used to drive light and heavy vehicles in different part of the world.

  12. Hello, I am a Permanent Resident from Saskatoon. I got my Class 5 Driver License in May, last year, in my first attempt. I have approximately six to seven year of experience as a Class-5 driver, with a clean record, from my home country.
    Because I had applied before as a Bus Driver somewhere else and they told me that first I have to get an year of experience here in Canada or I should have some experience of driving in North America to be qualified.
    The same you have mentioned in your “Qualifications Criteria” in the Information for Applicant section,
    ***Must have at least three years of driving experience, with at least one year in North America.***
    Do I have a chance of qualifying for the Bus Driver Job?

  15. I am a fully qualified bus driver currently holding an S endorsement. Past experience includes School Bus driving for Prairie Spirit, Commercial Bus Driving etc. I am looking for part time work, however I want to work more than 4 hours per day, every day. I am ready to work evenings,weekends and prefer to do charters. I have excellent customer service skills. Is it worthwhile for us to have a further discussion ? Do you have any inside positions?

  19. No i do not have any info on coach driving jobs in any province or bus driving jobs in Mcmurry Alberta, but if you are asking if i can drive a coach, yes i can, and i do have experience driving in the USA for six [6] years and driving in Canada would be similar or much the same
